2.3.3 32 bit edition giving error code 1001 Service fails to start

Oct 21, 2012 at 3:51 AM

Greetings,

I tried to install version 2.3.2 32bit version of MceBuddy.  At the end of the install I received an error 10001 about the service not starting.  Running XP Pro SP3.  I went back and tried to install other versions and the first one I got to work is version 2.2.15.  This version  installs and run fine.

I read the fix posted for this error.  I will continue to use 2.2.15.  Please advise on what I can do to complete the install of the new version.  Thanks so much.

2 things:

1. Click on Events on the GUI and post the error messages

2. Post mcebuddy.log (click on Logs)

It's likely that previous uninstall wasn't clean. (the service needs to be deleted after an uninstall, typically when the uninstall is not clean the next install fails to start the service with an error 1001.

Then try to install 2.3.4 (do a clean install, refer to the documentation -> Installation Issues on how to do a clean install and let me know the results)

I have the same issue as cadprofessor.  I'm also running XP Pro SP3 with latest windows updates.

I tried the 2.3.4 version after going through the clean install process.  I also tried running the install setup.exe "as administrator".

Version 2.2.15 is the last version that installs completely on my machine without the "Service fails to start" error.

Ssetup as administrator will not work as that option has not been configured.

did you try to "Delete the service" using the sc delete command after the uninstlal?

Let me know if this works:

How do I do a clean install of MCEBuddy

  1. Uninstall MCEBuddy from the Start Menu or the Uninstall Programs Shortcut (Control Panel)
  2. Delete the MCEBuddy Service: Find cmd.exe or command.exe in the Start Menu -> Accessories. RIGHT CLICK on it and select "Run as Administrator". In the command prompt typesc stop MCEBuddy2x and press Enter. This should stop the MCEBuddy service. Now typesc delete MCEBuddy2x and press Enter. This should delete the MCEBuddy service. Do not worry if it gives an error saying service does not exist. NOTE: If you do not run as an administrator then the service deletion will fail and MCEBuddy will not install.
  3. Delete the installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\MCEBuddy2x) - you will have to check where MCEBuddy was installed
  4. Delete the backup configuration files stored by MCEBuddy. Open the folder %HOMEPATH% (this is a windows variable, just type that into your Run Prompt or Windows Explorer). Delete the following 3 files if found, mcebuddy.conf, profiles.conf and history

Greetings

Did each step....after downloading new Mcebuddy received same error at the end of install.  Where are the log files?  Found two in the temp folder.  Tried to pasted them in this editor.  This editor did not like the size.  Please let me know which log files you need to see and the best way to send them to you.  Thanks you for the help.  Glad to see I am not the only one with this issue.

Here are the first lines of one of the log files.

Give me some time I need to get a fresh install of Win XP SP3 and try to replicate the issues.

Question: When you can the command sc delete MCEBuddy2x, what was the result of that command? (if you don't remember, uninstall the product and try it again and let me know).
