After last update MCEBuddy can't locate my destination path

May 3, 2013 at 4:17 PM
I run MCEBuddy on a Windows 7 guest under OS X 10.8.3. The hyperviser application is Parallels V8. Until the MCEBuddy 2.3.13 64bit - 04302013 release I could access the target location as "\psf\Home\Movies\MCEBuddy".

Now, no files are processed and I get the following error message in the log file.

I have no idea what happened to the post I made. When I wrote it it contained the log file error message and other text below an inserted code block that got truncated. I will try again without the code block.

2013-05-03T10:47:50 MCEBuddy.Engine.QueueManager --> Attempting to connect to network share \\psf\Home\Movies\MceBuddy
--> Unable to connect to network location \\psf\Home\Movies\MceBuddy
Domain name:
Username:
Password:
Return code is 53
The network path was not found
If I uninstall MCEBuddy 04302013 and drop back to the previous release everything works correctly. The \psf... notation is the way Parallels passes an OSX file reference to a guest poerating system. My Windows 7 file managers have no problem accessing these files without a user ID or password.

Any idea what changed or how I might work around the problem?

Try entering a username and password.

Is this the Monitor Task?
May 4, 2013 at 8:30 PM
All of the tasks are listed under Conversion Tasks - all monitoring the same local recording directory - each with different Channel name values such as TCM* or AMC* and the default task has Channel Name values like ~TCM8,~AMC*,....

I have tried adding the user ID and password to the tasks. It didn't help. And, like I said when I edited the comment to add the missing text, dropping back to the release prior to 04302013 has everything working correctly. The Windows 7 file managers access the \\PSF\ files without a user ID or password.

The monitor tasks are used to monitor/reading files, conversion tasks are responsible for converting/writing files.

So in your case you should enter the username and password in the Monitor Task (not conversion task) since it appears to be giving the error while trying to READ the file (connect to remote).

Now, coming to the functionality change, I will need to investigate why it isn't working and was working earlier. Do you have any mapped drives that you're using from the \PSF server/computer?
Can you attach the MCEBuddy.log file.

if you reinstall 04302013 does it work now? (am wondering if it's a network cable or connection issue)

Also do one thing - try using the IP address instead of \PSF, e.g. \192.168.1.4\Home\Movies\MceBuddy

I suspect it isn't able to resolve the name PSF.

I am sorry. I think I must not have been clear in my original posts. OS X and Windows 7 are running on the same computer at the same time. Windows 7 is a guest ( virtual ) system under OS X 10.8.3. The directory being monitored is local to the Windows 7 system. It is C:\Temp. It is the conversion destination folder that is local to the OS X system. When I uninstall the 04302013 version and install 04262013 everything works. If I then uninstall 04262013 and reinstall 04302013 it stops working. This is also true for the 05022013 version. The windows 7 system runs under Parallels. That is a hypervisor application much like Virtualbox or VMWare. All hardware access by the Windows 7 system is through Parallels. The "C:\" drive is a file that simulates a hard disk. The \psf stands for Parallels Shared Folder. It is the way Parallels shares OS X files with it's guest systems. I will need to think about the idea of providing an ip address to access those files. I have never needed to think of that before.

Update:
I saved a copy of the mcebuddy.conf file and then deleted all but the default task. I modified the default task to target \192.168.1.5\MyFusionDrv\Users\lrh\Movies\MCEbuddy. I also added the correct user ID and password. It failed the same way. Unable to access the network path. I will drop back to the 04262013 version to see if the new notation will work there. More later.

Update2:
When I drop back to the 04262013 version the \192.168.1.5... notation worked and MCEBuddy started processing a recording in the monitored directory.

I've put up a test build for you in the EARLY_ACCESS folder see thta works and if it does, post the mcebuddy.log for THIS build AND the 04302013 build. I will need to verify what's going on before putting the final fix in.
May 7, 2013 at 8:08 PM
I tried the test build and it did not work for me. My Windows 7 system is 64bit and the test build is 32bit. I don't know if that causes a problem or not.

I have uploaded the 04262013 log and the 04302013 log to MediaFire. I will place the links in this note. Sorry to be so slow - attending to family matters the past few days.

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ekbju998cbkkpeu

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?xrncvnquu3jcutc

I am sure I miss diagnosed the problem. Both logs show the failure to access the target location. However, at the end of the log, one version processes files and the other does not. In each run I have edited the history file and removed the entries relating to the recording I want to convert.

Very sorry for the missdirection.

From what I'm able to see it isn't converting the files because the file has already been processed and the results has been stored in the history file as a mismatch in metadata profiles.
The difference in 0430 and 0426 releases are WHERE the metadata matching takes places. In the 0426 it used to take place after the convresion starts and then it used to fail the task if it didn't match. In 0430 and after the matching is done before the conversion starts to fix some bugs related to the processing.

The issue isn't MCEBuddy it's the way your conversion tasks are setup. There are no files that match your filters to process.

Try deleting your History file if want all the files to be reprocessed. (make a back of it incase you want to restore it later).

I deleted the history file - still no joy. Then, after making a backup copy of mcebuddy.conf, I deleted all conversion tasks and created one named test which used the MP4-Normal profile. I selected no other options.

This configuration started converting files. Next I created a second task called TCM using the same MP4-Normal profile. I entered TCM* in the channel name field and saved it. I also added ~TCM* in the channel name field of the TEST task.

I restored the history file after editing it to remove entries for one of the recordings. The recording in question came from TCMHD network. With this configuration nothing was converted.

See the attached clip from the related log file.

Your filter is incorrect- it should be

*;~TCM*

I don't understand. Why would that stop the engine from moving on to the second task which has a network filter of TCM*?

I made the change and tried to process two recordings - both from the TCMHD network - test is the default task which has ;~TCM network filter and TCM is the task with only TCM* in the network filter.

Can you upload part of the WTV file along with mcebuddy.conf to the server

May 9, 2013 at 2:06 AM
I clipped 700 meg of the original ts file and uploaded a folder called Sandpipper-test to your server. It has the ts file clip, the related xml file and the test mcebuddy.conf file. I also uploaded the original mcebuddy.conf file I was using when I started having problems. ( mcebuddy-original.conf )

If you need something else let me know.
