MP4 High Quality / No Dolby Audio

Jan 19, 2014 at 5:37 PM
I'm converting files using the MP4 high quality and have multi-channel audio selected - but they do not output in Dolby Digital. Please advise as to how to resolve. Thanks!

Please let me know what settings I need to adjust to get Dolby audio.

Thanks!

Couple of things:
  1. MP4 profile uses AAC (which is what you're getting), if you want AC3 output choose a profile that uses AC3 output like MKV or you can customize the MP4 profile and change the audio codec from libaac_fdk to ac3 and you'll get ac3 output (you should change the audio codec for all the encoders in the profile, ffmpeg codec name is ac3, handbrake it is ffac3 and for mencoder it is ac3)
  2. Your source file audio has only 2 channels (stereo) so that output will be stereo

Thank you! - Can you direct me as to how to customize the MP4 profile to use AC3 audio - do I just edit a configuration file with the codecs you mentioned?

Please go through the documentation on this website on how to write profiles.

There it will become apparent and yes you just need to replace the codec names for each encoder within the specific profile.
