Help with conversion, question about quicksync

Jun 3, 2014 at 1:47 PM
Using the latest stable release 2.3.15 on an Intel I7 4770k, no video card.

My wifes only request (upon ditching cable) is to have The Young and the Restless recorded. I have an antenna and record with WMC, no worries. Everything records, removes commercials, converts and moves as planned, except of course the one show my wife wants. I think there is a problem with the meta data for the show, or the database where the information is coming from. It does convert fine and remove commercials great, but the renaming in a format that Plex will serve up isn't working like I think it should.

Also, watching last night as it converted 24, and was monitoring with gpu/z (which indicates that OpenCL is present) but the GPU load never went above 0-1%, I was assuming that when the actual conversion started that the load on the gpu would rise.

Saw some posts indicating you can click on hardware acceleration, but didn't see any options anywhere on the mcebuddy interface. Is there a file I have to modify? Also, looking thru the log file created for the show, didn't match any hits for "hardware" or "handbrake", so I must not be looking at the right log file.

Not sure how to attach a log file, it is quite large.

What profile are you using?

Conversion Task -> Advanced Settings -> Expert Settings -> Enable Hardware Encoding

Thanks for the super fast response. Using MP4 High Quality

Hardware should work if you are using the default profile.

Zip and upload your log file to Dropbox and post the link here

Will do when I get home. Can't access it from work.

Here is the log file

and I cannot see the hardware encoding, here is a picture of what I see. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but can't see it.

Read my note carefully

Conversion Task -> Advanced settings -> expert settings

I didn't say Settings -> Expert Settings

Don't I feel silly.

That's because you're using 2.3.13 and not 2.3.15

--> MCEBuddy Current Version :

Can you take a look at and let me know what else foolish I may be doing. Program is simply stopping from running in the middle of a conversion. The log is for a file that is 5% of the way thru the "Converting video file" using the MP4 High setting. HandbrakeCLI.exe is running, but no cpu cycles are being used.

Tried it again with a different file, it ran for a bit, got to 3% done and stopped. Handbrake still showing to be running, but not taking up any cpu.

Your intel driver has hung. Update or use a stable version.

Thanks. I updated to the latest driver and am trying again. Is this a typical thing with hardware encoding or just the luck of the draw?

Same thing happened with the latest driver. Going to disable it and see if it run through.

Latest driver is not always the most stable driver. Drivers are the key to hardware encoding and stable drivers are critical since they are doing the heavy lifting.

The one we have tested with here (and stable so far) is

Ok, disabling the hardware acceleration allowed the conversion to finish.

Is that driver the same for windows 7 & 8? Checked intel's site and for my 4400 on win 7 64 bit they don't even show it as an option, only which is the latest and I just installed, or which is the previous one I had.

Success! Was able to convert a 1 hour show using MP4 High in 36.04 vs 53.27 using software only. I used the stabile driver you recommended.
