FIXED: QuickSync Hardware Encoding for New Intel Broadwell Processors (Intel 5th Gen i3 5010U)

Mar 13, 2015 at 8:38 PM

I recently purchased an Intel NUC with 5th generation i3 processor. I noticed that hardware encoding was failing in the log file (running MCEBuddy 2.4.1 with Handbrake 0.10.0).

I found that when manually running Handbrake 0.10.0 with Intel QSV (QuickSync Video hardware encoding) that the encode would not work. However, there were no problems when switched from x264 Intel QSV to x264 software encoding. I figured this was likely due to non-support of the new 5th generation Intel processors. (I still am unsure of the exact reason.)

To fix the problem I downloaded and installed Handbrake 0.10.1b2. I found that the newer Handbrake version was able to correctly encode files with Intel QSV turned on. I replaced the Handbrake .exe files in the MCEBuddy directory with the updated versions and hardware encoding now seems to work fine.

I hope this helps others out there with the same problem.
