max width slider being ignored

Jun 17, 2015 at 7:02 PM
OK, I had one conversion produce a 720p mp4 as expected, so I duplicated the task and changed the channel name and comskip.ini to match another recorded movie. Everything seemed to go well until I noticed that it produced a 1080p mp4. I have the max width slider set to 1280 and am using the modified Xbox 360 profile from earlier to allow 720p. I'm guessing the log covers everything else, so here you go: Jurassic Park_AMCPHD_2015_05_31_13_59_00.wtv-Convert AMC HD to Xbox 360 720p-2015-06-17T03-47-00.0201568-07-00.log

Here is the log for the file that produced a 720p MP4. I no longer have the source file to double check, but if I'm reading these logs right, the conversion is maintaining the source resolution. Of course, I just want everything higher resolution or equal to 720p to produce 720p, and everything lower resolution to maintain the source resolution. I'm hoping thats doable. Looks like you've customized the profile so it's behaving the way you've coded the profile:

you've hardcoded in the profile what resolution you want, apart from writing your own custom scaling factor the profile also mentions:

That tells MCEBuddy not to mess with the resolution and that the profile has been hardcoded to meet the specifications so it ignore any inputs from user.

It's behaving exactly the way it should. You may want to relook at your entire profile and see how you want it to work.

I'm not only using MCEbuddy for convenience, but because I only somewhat understand the process via commandline so far. I am learning from all this handholding. I think my next step is to find a short tv program to experiment with so I'm not waiting an entire night to see what the result of a specific change is. On top of everything here, I need to find out what kind of 720p file Emby's Xbox 360 and Android clients will use without transcoding on my server, because their past forum responses have suggested that H.264 + stereo AAC was the most universal format. Fortunately it will all be pretty automated (thanks to MCEbuddy) once I work this stuff out. For now I should use scale=min(1280\,iw):trunc(ow/dar/2)*2 to get 720p from both 720p and 1080p sources, correct? What, if any, simple changes can I make to use the max width slider instead?

remove the scale all together, remove the fixedresolution line and you should be able to use the slider.

This profile was made to be compliant with a specification for ps3. Instead just use the MP4 normal profile, it's very similar without the restrictions.
