Converting .wtv does not generate an .srt file.

Jan 6, 2016 at 10:34 AM
Using MCEBuddy 2.4.3 on Win7 I set the Conversion Task to "Extract subtitles and closed captions" and set to convert a .wtv file that I know contains subtitles (BBC UK broadcast) to .mp4.

The conversion runs fine and no (obvious) errors are reported, but no .srt file is created.

Please advise. Thanks.

It may be Teletext and not closed captions. MCEBuddy can't process Teletext as yet

Thank you.

I should have mentioned that the original signal was a DVB-T broadcast by Freeview in the UK.

Having read more detail, this would appear to be known as DVB Subtitling EN 300 -743 (perhaps ETSI).

Furthermore, it may be that the subtitles are broadcast as DVB bit-map subtitling - which would be no use for converting to an .srt file (i.e. they contain graphic bitmaps, rather than text).

If someone could provide more detail on (or point me to) how subtitles are interpreted in MCEBuddy I make try to take a closer look.
