Trouble with no audio

description

I just converted a TV program from a .avi file. (From FX channel)
I have confirmed that the source has audio.
the .mp4 output file with commercials (comskip) removed has no audio.
I believe that the other MCEBuddy settings were defaults except folder designations...and most of those were defaults as well.
I looked at the common issues that described "MCEBuddy sometimes creates video with no audio"
There are no indications of a secondary audio file in the properties window.
This is the contents of the Medio Info;

Video

Codec : dvvideo
Duration : 01h : 04m : 37s
Height : 480
Width : 720
FPS : 29.97

Audio 1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Language :
Codec : pcm_s16le
Channels : 2

Nothing unusual.

I have to be doing something wrong but which is very simple but browsing around the advanced pages i just do not see anything obvious to me.

I am using VLC to play back .mp4 files. The O/S is Win7.

I can convert it in Freemake Video Converter, removing the commercials manually. But i thought i would give Buddy a whirl to see how good it was at trimmng and removing commercials...BTW: the final length was just over 44 min.n n When i trimmed the program, it was 59 min with commercials and my hand-cut version was 43:59, just 3 seconds shorter. This implies that the cutting was working pretty well.

I would appreciate suggestions.

Thanks.
Terry

Post the conversion log otherwise there's no way to tell what's going on

Wilky13 wrote Feb 18, 2013 at 5:26 PM

Remove '-async 1' from your profile. My FX channel recordings had problem with audio until I removed this parameter.

theworm wrote Mar 10, 2013 at 6:46 PM

I did post a log with comments but do not know where it went. When i got the closure notice today, i thought i would try one more time. I thought that i had removed the async 1 from my profile but i just looked at my last log and it is still there. Can you provide additional info as to properly perform that change? Apparently i did not go about it correctly.

Thanks.

Terry

Open profiles.conf, locate the profile you're using. within ffmpeg-general look for -async 1 and delete it, save the profile and reconvert.

theworm wrote Mar 11, 2013 at 4:01 PM

Ok, re-ran it on the same recording with the async 1 removed...and got the same result. I searched the log file and async is definitely not there. I would appreciate any other suggestions.

I tried attaching the log just a few minutes ago and got the message "work item attachment file size exceeds the restricted limit" so i do not know what to do. I will try to attach again but on another entry because i want this one to go through and get posted.

Try to zip it and attach the log file

theworm wrote Mar 11, 2013 at 7:40 PM

ok, attached is the log file. There should be no async parameters in it. The log file says its size is 38k and i am unconvinced that it will upload, so here are a few lines around an ffmpeg portion of the log.

Terry

stupid me...of course, zip it. The new log was only 18k but zipped it is only 4k

Something very wierd here, the remux is not even starting:

I think it may be a corrupted file, MCEBuddy.conf. Did you copy paste an old file?

I would suggest a clean install of the latest 2.3.12 BETA (don't restore any mcebuddy.conf files, you may ONLY restore profiles.conf). Otherwise open MCEBuddy.conf and copy paste/edit what settings you want).

theworm wrote Mar 12, 2013 at 4:11 AM

I'm sorry, you confused me with your reply.
  1. I understand that you want me to re-install the Beta (incidentally, i did that yesterday way after my first inquiry but i will do it again to be sure that i meet your needs.)
  2. You said: I think it may be a corrupted file, MCEBuddy.conf. Did you copy paste an old file?
Please clarify: Which File? MCEBuddy or the MCEBuddy.conf is suspected to be corrupt?
  3. You said: (don't restore any mcebuddy.conf files, you may ONLY restore profiles.conf). Otherwise open MCEBuddy.conf and copy paste/edit what settings you want).
This really confused me: I do not understand which one you want left untouched from the download and which you are suggesting that i edit. (I assume that i need to remove the async 1 from the profiles.conf--is that right?
Yes, i was in the mcebuddy.conf file and noticed that it had async 1 in it as well....that should be untouched?????

I will get to this tomorrow, i hope. If not, be patient as i will be back.

Thanks for everything.

Terry

mcebuddy.conf and profiles.conf both lie in the config directory.

If you haven't modified them don't worry about it.

Do this, do a clean uninstall of MCEbuddy (refer to the documentation on how to do a clean uninstall).

Then download hte latest BETA version 03112013-1 from the Early Access folder and install it.

Run the conversion again and see what happens, send the log.

BTW - you log shows that you're using 2.3.11
--> MCEBuddy Platform -> 64 Bit
--> MCEBuddy Current Version : 2.3.11.1
