ipad settings

description

I used 2.3.10 to covert my recordings to a format that would work with my ipad by cloning the Apple fast profile and adding the -w 1024 item. I them use Zumocast to pull down the converted file directly to the iPad for offline viewing later on. On this new version I added the same profile line I was using in the previous version but when I tried to pull down in Zumocast it always tries to convert it as it thinks that is is not in an iPad compatible format now. That work but it takes 2-3 times as long because it thinks it has to convert it a second time instead of just "downloading" it after mcebuddy has already converted it for me. I used the exact same profile between one version and the next so I don't understand what has changed. Can you please help?

I will need the log files from the old version and the new version to compare.

Easier, if you're using the latest version there is an iPad profile, just use that.

hookem wrote Mar 27, 2013 at 1:17 PM

Ok I just tried the 2.3.12 with iPad profile and Zumocast still converts it a second time while downloading. It take 3 times the amoutn of time when it does this rather than just strait downloading it. I noticed you used mencoder and ffmpeg in that profile witn 1024 scaling and fixed resolution. On the old version it was using handbrake so could there be some argument that is differnet? The other thing I noticed is that the size of the file it is trying to convert is almost double that of the ones it was just downloading.

hookem wrote Mar 27, 2013 at 1:19 PM

I have already upgraded the old version, I have an almost identical machine that is running the old version still and working, can I send you the log file on that to compare with the log file on this other version on this machine or will that not work?

rboy1 wrote Mar 27, 2013 at 4:54 PM

please send me the log

rboy1 wrote Mar 27, 2013 at 4:54 PM

the old version which works

hookem wrote Mar 27, 2013 at 5:41 PM

sorry I am new to this, how do I get you the log?

rboy1 wrote Mar 27, 2013 at 6:59 PM

You can attach this to this thread.

rboy1 wrote Mar 30, 2013 at 11:32 AM

Is the issue resolved?

hookem wrote Mar 30, 2013 at 4:01 PM

No unfortunately not, Zumocast still wants to convert it, I upgraded to the beta before I saved the old log file, is that still saved somewhere even though I upgraded?

rboy1 wrote Mar 30, 2013 at 4:41 PM

no probably gone.

can downgrade, convert save the file and post it?

rboy1 wrote Mar 30, 2013 at 4:41 PM

or send me the profile that used to work

hookem wrote Mar 31, 2013 at 11:00 PM

here is all I did I cloned the Apple M4V settings and added -w 1024 in the profile line, these worked fine for me in 2.3.10 but not in 2.3.11 or 2.3.12 and I don't know why:

The only reason I can think of are 2 things:
  1. Atomic Parsley is causing an issue with the tagging.
  2. The Handbrake has been upgraded and is the new version is causing an issue.
try to reinstall the old version, open the handbrake folder and save it. Then install the new vesion and replace the handbrake folder with the old version and see if that fixes your issue, if it doesn't then Atomic Parsley is likely the issue and we can work on figuring that out.

rboy1 wrote Apr 1, 2013 at 12:00 AM

you know what before you do that FIRST attach the log file from your LATEST conversion that does NOT work. Let me see if the -w flag is preserved in it.

hookem wrote Apr 1, 2013 at 3:15 PM

I tried what you said with the handbrake folder, moved the old one back in 2.3.12 and overwrote the existing one, used the profile that worked on 2.3.10 again and it still wants to "convert" it a 2nd time.

hookem wrote Apr 1, 2013 at 3:43 PM

I just noticed something else while checking the details of the converted file, I have multi channel audio selected in the program and all my conversions have 2 channel

rboy1 wrote Apr 1, 2013 at 4:46 PM

since you had the old version installed, please run it and attach the conversion log from 2.3.10 and then from your latest 2.3.12

I'll compare to see what's going on.

hookem wrote Apr 1, 2013 at 5:17 PM

here's a stupid question, when I installed the old version again I didn't convert anything, I just saved the handbrake folder like you said so I won't have the log file for that one, on the new version do I send the log of the file that was being converted or the whole mcebuddy log file?

rboy1 wrote Apr 1, 2013 at 6:19 PM

You would need to convert using the old installation and then SAVE the conversion log (not mcebuddy.log but the actual conversion log before upgrading otherwise you'll lose it).

Then post it here, use the Browse button to attach teh log file.

hookem wrote Apr 1, 2013 at 8:08 PM

I just recorded a few minutes of a show so I could convert with both version, please note i dont actually watch this show lol

rboy1 wrote Apr 1, 2013 at 8:52 PM

please comment on what you're attaching and what the file represents

rboy1 wrote Apr 1, 2013 at 10:21 PM

I dont' see the log from the latest version to compare

hookem wrote Apr 1, 2013 at 11:24 PM

sorry heres the new version, thanks for your help

rboy1 wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 5:17 AM

Here is what I see

Your old profile has -w 1024 and -X 720

your new profile has only -X 1024

try making adding -w 1024 to the new profile and set the Max Width to 720 in the conversion task settings.

hookem wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 10:45 AM

ok sorry I forgot to use the exact profile as before, here is the log using those exact setting froms one version to the next

rboy1 wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 12:25 PM

They lookidentifical now. Are you sure the Jeff file is not be reconverted and the the local news is being reconverted?

hookem wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 1:04 PM

yes positive, I tried downloading them both again this morning, that is why i am so baffled, they should be exactly the same right?

rboy1 wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 3:04 PM

hmm I need more time to think this through.

Do you have any logs from the Suma reconversion?

rboy1 wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 3:05 PM

zumocast

hookem wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 3:13 PM

let me check, i don't know where those are located, I am not sure it is keeps it on the ipad or on the actual computer

hookem wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 5:37 PM

no luck, I can't find a log file anywhere for it

rboy1 wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 6:58 PM

zumocast is for motorola phones...

hookem wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 7:26 PM

zumocast has an ipad and iphone app, they took it off the app store when motorola purchased them, I have had it on my ipad for 4 years, works great, I just cannot figure out why one converted file with the old version works and the new one doesn't

hookem wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 7:46 PM

sorry iphone for 4 years Ipad since 2010

hookem wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 7:47 PM

I would just continue using the old 2.3.10 since it works great except for the fact that it fails to convert my files recorded off of my HD PVR, that is the only reason I have to upgrade

rboy1 wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 8:37 PM

see this is going to be hard for me to figure out since I couldn't find teh app on teh store to test it.

the only thing I can suggest is
  1. install 2.3.10, save the profile, handbrake and atomic parsley folders
  2. Install 2.3.12, use the old profile, handbrake and atomic parsley
see if that fixes it. if not, it'll take time to figure it out. Like you will need to experienment with the profiles and see what comes up since only you can test it.

rboy1 wrote Apr 2, 2013 at 8:50 PM

can you upload hte old and new converted samples to the MCEBuddy server?

hookem wrote Apr 3, 2013 at 2:29 PM

I think I am just going to put up the white flag on this one. I love MCEBuddy and am not going to stop using it so I decided to look for alternatives to Zumocast and I believe I have found a workable solution, it will probably cost me a $150 or so but for my sanity and I am sure yours it is probably worth it. Thanks again

hookem wrote Apr 3, 2013 at 2:31 PM

actually I just have one more question I hope you could answer for me, what is the best profile for iPad that will also look good when connecting to output to a TV?

rboy1 wrote Apr 13, 2013 at 8:07 PM

figured it out I presume

hookem wrote Apr 13, 2013 at 9:01 PM

I never did figure out what was causing Zumocast to covert on one version instead of the other, I just tried an alternative program for getting the videos converted by MCEBuddy to my iPad. I am currently using the iPad profile and a program called Phone Drive and the video quality is superior to Zumocast anyway so I am happy
