MCEbuddy not recognizing files in monitor location

Feb 20, 2014 at 10:10 PM
I have 2 HTPCs running Windows 7.
HTPC1 handles Windows Media Center and recording/storing files.
HTPC2 runs MCEBuddy. This has been working beautifully until I recently rebuilt HTPC1 with a new motherboard, CPU, and Power Unit.
Now, MCEBuddy (HTPC2) doesn't seem to want to recognize any files in the monitored location on HTPC1.
During my troubleshooting I've:
Created a new Homegroup with a new password (both computers are successfully joined)
Confirmed that files are sharing back and forth
Entered the username/password data in the "Key" of the monitor location inside MCEBuddy username: homegroup - password: ******* (this is what I was previously using prior to the rebuild and it worked great)
I tried manually Adding files from the monitored location inside MCEBuddy. None show up in MCEBuddy.

Any suggestions?

Mcebuddy.log

MCEbuddy.log says:
Logon Failure: unknown username or bad password
Return Code is 1326

I'm not sure why this is the case. Both PCs are joined to the homegroup.
Inside MCEbuddy, I use the username: homegroup and the same password I used to join both computers to the homegroup.

I don't think homegroups work. Mcebuddy uses traditional authentication. You will need to setup a traditional sharing for this to work.

homegroup worked prior to my rebuild of HTPC1. I will try a more traditional route.

Not saying it won't work. Just never tried it and am not familiar with how home groups work from an authentication point of view.

Maybe you can research it and share your thoughts on it.

I'm using Windows7 Home. I'm not very knowledgeable on traditional networking. If you could recommend a link to help with setting it up, that would be appreciated. I've shared the monitored location every way I can think of. Other than homegroup, I'm not sure how to setup the credentials that need to be inputted into MCEBuddy.

I will look into the Homegroup. For now, if you go into Homegroup -> Advanced Sharing Options -> Under Homergroup Connections, -> Use User Accounts and Passwords to connect to other computers.

Now you will need to share each folder separately and provide the necessary authentication for it.

See this video:

Also you can see on this page how to setup advanced sharing.

Ive previously done all the step youre suggesting. MCEbuddy just doesnt recognize any files in the folder. the computer itself accesses everything just fine. There is a new complication not previously mentioned. When I input the destination path (NAS SERVER) and enter the log in credential in the MCEBuddy key, click OK, I get this message, "Unable to communicate with engine. Settings have NOT been saved". Keep in mind that everything worked excellent with these settings before I rebuilt the other computer. The only thing I've done differently on this computer is upgrade mcebuddy from release 12 to 13. Below is my MCEBuddy log. Ive removed my password from the copy/paste below:

Sorry can't vouch for older version. There are 400+ bugs fixed since 2.3.13, upgrade to the latest version and then we can look at debugging it.
