Tivo SkipMode

Hi all,

After many years of nursing Media Center along, I've finally decided to give up and move back to the Tivo - in part due to the comfort I had knowing that MCEBuddy will work with the Tivo files.

Now that Tivo has commercial skipping built into some of it's recordings, I'm wondering if MCEBuddy will support the commercial cutpoints. I've read that kmttg will, but it's 1) Java based, and 2) nearly unintelligible in its UX.

Any thoughts? FWIW, I'm an early access member. Thanks! WIll.

Mcebuddy uses kmttg at the back end to extract metadata. Can you get us a few samples of TiVo recordings with the commercial skip metadata and we'll look into it.
Any pointers to a new version of kmttg extractin this info will be appreciated also

I don't have the Tivo yet, but will send along as soon as I have some sample files.

The kmttg info is:

Ok - I've started playing with kmttg as an extraction tool. It creates a file and an EDL file as part of pulling the recording off the Tivo. The txt file is meta-data, and the edl is the cut file. Is there a way to have MCEBuddy use these files by default and then fall back to internet metadata and comskip if they're not there?

You can look at samples of these files at:

It looks like it may already be using the EDL file. Is that possible?

Despite adding my MAK to the expert settings, .tivo files always fail on remux. I've tried this with both having the Tivo Desktop installed, and without, running and not. Log at:

So I think you may be reading this in reverse. KMTTG runs comskip on the files and then sends the EDL to TiVO to skip it using RPC (TiVO series 4 and later).

However TiVO natively also has support for marking commercials. If you have a sample of a TiVO file that has skip markers in it, upload it and we'll see if we can extract it.

Yah - I was doing exactly that. I have found that MCEBuddy does much more accurate cuts coming from Tivo vs WMC. Do you think that has to do with the source file being a .TS vs a .WTV?

Thanks for all the help! Will.

Hmm not sure it's comskip. Maybe a good question for the comskip forum.
